3.1. All participants in the Fellowship are eligible for a $2,000 scholarship (or equivalent in your local currency), subject to successfully completing the program as set out in these terms. To receive the scholarship each participant must:
3.2. If you do not meet the criteria set out above you will need to complete an extenuating circumstances form and send it to us. We will consider any extenuating circumstances and make a decision fairly and reasonably whether or not to award the scholarship.
3.3. At the end of the Fellowship, we will invite select Fellows to become Research Scholars.
3.4. If we pay any money to you incorrectly, for example because of an administrative error, you will repay the money to us.
3.5. The scholarships will be paid to the extent that we have the funds available. Any bank fees and/or foreign exchange fees will be deducted from the total amount of the prize or scholarship. We will do what we can to keep these fees low, but cannot control how much these fees amount to.
3.6. Each scholarship must be used for educational purposes. This includes purchasing textbooks, paying for courses and tuition fees, purchasing technology which will assist your education and supplementing unpaid internships. If you have any questions about whether spending is for educational purposes please contact us in advance using the email address below.
3.7. If you are under 18 we will pay any scholarships to your parent or guardian, rather than to you directly.
3.8. You will submit receipts to demonstrate that you have spent the scholarship for these purposes within 12 months of receiving the scholarship. If we ask for any other information about how you have spent the scholarship you will provide this to us promptly. We may also ask you to submit progress report to us. This should set out how you have spent the scholarship, and how this has progressed your education.
3.9. If we do not reasonably believe that you have spent the scholarship for educational purposes we may require you to repay the scholarship to us.
3.10. Participants will be notified by email if they have been awarded a scholarship.
3.11. You will be responsible for any tax, duties, or governmental fees payable on any scholarship we pay to you.
4.1. While you are a participant on the Fellowship you must comply with the following policies:
4.2. If we reasonably believe you have not complied with these policies, we will take appropriate action, which could include removing you from the Fellowship. If this happens you will not be eligible for the scholarship.
4.3. We expect all participants to complete all project work, attend all project group meetings and submit weekly reflections.
4.4. If you are going to be absent from any project group meeting you should submit a Planned Absence Form to us and let your project group know you will be away. If you miss more than two project group meetings we may remove you from the Fellowship. If there are extenuating circumstances which explain your absence you may submit an extenuating circumstances form explaining why you should be allowed to continue with the program.
4.5. You will need to submit your weekly reflections by Sunday each week. If you miss or are one day late submitting your reflections you can add a note to your reflections explaining why your submission was late. If you miss two or more weeks of reflections we may remove you from the program unless there are extenuating circumstances explaining why you missed your submission.
4.6. We expect each participant to dedicate at least 24 hours to the planning and execution of your project over the term of the Fellowship. We will not normally ask for evidence of this, but if we consider that your project is not making the progress we would expect, we may ask you to demonstrate how you have spent your time. We may remove you from the Fellowship if we do not consider you are dedicating sufficient time to the Fellowship and/or may not award you a scholarship.
4.7. Please do not identify other participants or include details of their projects without first getting their consent. Please also ensure that you are complying with our Digital Safety Policy where you post anything on social media.
4.8. If you are asked to make any statement about the Fellowship, Non-Trivial, or Effective Ventures Foundation in the media (for example on TV or print media) please contact us first using the email address below.
